Favorite Place Names

To keep us amused on our long days of riding, we have taken to keeping an eye out for amusing or bizarre place names.

Until yesterday, my favourite had been somewhere we had seen early on (day 2, I believe). A place called Boconnoc, in Cornwall.

However, this was surpassed by the fabulously named hamlet of Top O' Th' Lane, nr Brindle, Lancashire. I think I like it for the way it is spelt as it no doubt sounds in the local dialect, and that it perfectly (if unimaginatively) describes where it is located! I only wish I'd stopped to get a photo of the sign post.

Let's see if Scotland can produce a place name which can top this one.....

Location:Kirkby Lonsdale
