Day 4 - Street to Welsh Bicknor

Today was quite a day - it feels like a very long time since we left Street this morning, and we've covered a lot of ground (75 miles).

The day started with a short ride into Wells, before a long climb out of England's smallest city and up and over the Mendips. We got to Bristol where, after some refining of the route in view of the Clifton suspension bridge, we met Lizzie's gran who came prepared with lots of cakes and tea - just what was needed!

After lunch, we headed out of Bristol and left Somerset, moving into South Gloucestershire - our 4th county. It was quite pleasing to see a sign for 'The Midlands' as we left Bristol behind - not just because it is home, but it was also a sign of the progress we were making.

The next bridge we had to tackle was the Severn Bridge - which is technically on a motorway. It was also extremely windy, but with great views all round.

Over the bridge and we were into Wales, and Monmouthshire - our 5th county! And yes - as soon as we got into Wales it started to rain! (to be fair, it also rained in Bristol earlier - our first wet ride of the trip).

We soon left Wales behind and were welcomed back to England. The miles were clocking up though and the day was drawing to a close with quite a lot of miles still left to cover.

Our final stint took us into the Forest of Dean, with some more beautiful scenery, and also led us into Herefordshire - our 6th county! Really getting through them today!

A long climb at the end of the day finally led is to our bed for tonight - and a very welcome plate of pasta!

So that's 6 counties, and over 25% of the miles covered now! The downside is that we're more than 30% through our cycling days, so we're going to have to up the mileage in the remaining days. My legs don't like the sound of that right now!
