Day five.

Very much a mixed bag.

Breakfast duty again, and managed to get myself out of bed before 7 which was a good catalyst for getting set off by 8.30. We had a light breakfast so we could meet for brunch. I wrung Bianca's neck to get her up to Hereford, enjoying the big open road and a chance to go flat out for 18 miles. I meet the rest of the wheelers outside a cafe and we sat down and nattered for a good hour, enjoying real leaf tea. Very posh.

Onwards and northwards on what felt like the same road for the rest of the day. Stopping again for lunch. Andrew was particularly pleased for the double pit stop. Little and often is usually the way to play it. Much cake, and even some vegetables were consumed.

On day three, there was a small revelation... Yorky had only brought one pair of socks.........! Today, at lunch, he dashed off to buy some more. He came back with a massive carrier bag, clearly with hardly any weight in.... "yeah, I bought another two pairs." Two pairs... just two? Oh yeah, we're only here for another 10 days so two pairs of socks should be fine.....!?!

Later in the afternoon, I was shockingly overtaken a couple of times by stealth sprinter James... just out of nowhere, he comes steaming up the outside, still carrying bananas. I'll have to look out for him tomorrow...

The sour points were that we picked up a couple of injuries today... Chris's knee (see his post) and James' Achilles heel. Hopefully both will be patched up for tomorrow. The 85 miles up to Warrington look quite straightforward, except for the massive climb to get out of this place. My body is holding up pretty well. Had a full on Sprint this morning, and spent much of the day riding over-geared, working the legs up the hills and giving the lungs a rest. Friday is hills hills hills so its going to be an intense CV workout.

Also did a few bike repairs, replacing two worn chains. Bianca even got a bit of a polish.

Cake count was 3, bringing the total up to something that I can't calculate. Mmmmm....
