Day One

Done!

Cake count: 1
Punctures: 0

Today was pretty cool. Being down at lands end at the crack of dawn meant we were the only people there. We didn't hang around for long as we were eager to get started.

Today's unknowns where how hilly it would be and how we'd all cope. The hills were pretty bad, and everyone coped quite admirably. In the morning the slopes were long, gentle inclines... nice and manageable, we pressed on at a decent pace.

Had an awesome cream tea for lunch at a sweet little riverside cafe. The steep ascent back onto the main route from there set the bench mark for the last twenty miles home. The hills were coming thick and fast, 1500 metres of climbing in total, with the hotel being atop what must be the highest hill I've ever had to do.

Frustrated that there were no opportunities for ultimate downhill speed racing.

Tired riders rolled in one by one, a few drinks, dinner and most have retired early to rest up for tomorrow. 2000m of climbing through Dartmoor lies in wait. Gonna have to up the cake count to make it through. Let's hope the legs ease up a bit overnight.
